Poinsettia is native to Mexico and is a very decorative plant due to its colors.
Its leaves are large and green but its petals can be red, yellow, white, etc ... The Poinsettia flowers in winter (from November to February) and can be grown both inside the house like in the garden. On the outside it adapts very well to warm climates without frosts or with weak frosts (-2ºC) and eventually forms a large shrub up to 5 meters high.
They need a humid environment, so if we have heating at home we will put humidifiers and spray water on their leaves. Do not put up with currents or sudden changes in temperature. The irrigation must be done by the roots, that is, place a plate with water under the pot so that it absorbs it, and to add fertilizer to him to nourish it. Do not water it abundantly or continuously.
In order to show its typical and striking colors, the plant of light must be hidden for half a day from October to Christmas. Once it has flowered, it needs a lot of light to keep its colored leaves.
