Its leafs are perennial dark green on the beam and lighter on the underside, elliptical, coriaceous, very hard, warped and with spines on the edges. (Of about 5 to 9 cm. long).
The red fruits, like peas and mature in autumn and of them feed on rodents, herbivores and birds, to obtain colored fruits it is necessary to have a male and a female because it is a dioecious plant. Currently, it is a protected species in several places in Europe due to the wild predation that became the object of decorating at Christmas.
Lives in different types of soils and can withstand even the driest climates. Tolerates the cold and environmental humidity. In cold winters protect it with a padding, and do not forget to water it during hot seasons.
